Artist Statement About Their Work is expressed through the following poem, titled 'Catharsis', written and recited by Marina Muhlfriedel [10/2/16]
Whilst love soundly sleeps
I drift through her meadow
Clutching the icy cold candle catharsis
My job,
I know
is to fight the fire
(to quell the pyre)
Without disturbing her rest
I unlatch each ear
to touch her brain
(an aromatic cauldron of confusion)
Waxy teardrops slip
and solidify
(gentle as a fly)
I sweep the filmy surface
of knots and eddies
all the tangled fears
and relics of reluctance
I can find
(some, of course, will be left behind)
Whilst love soundly sleeps
she shifts and moans
Her head open wide
(nothing hides)
Childhood memories
bob to the surface
A bully steals
a golden ring An oak tree breathes
(an old man seethes)
Wallpaper peels
above a bed of rocks
Garbled languages
wheeze
from marble mouths
Whilst love soundly sleeps
a storm shadow
drifts by
(and tries to hide)
A silver dollar dream
I pluck from the surface
(an eclipse reverses)
It is the shadow
I came for
And she sighs
Whilst love soundly sleeps
I drift through her meadow
Clutching the dream
(that never should have been)
Shutting her head,
And fastening each ear
I inhale the settling dust
And blow out the icy cold candle,
catharsis.
